"Smoking the Book of Mormon!": Our 3 African Shona Chi-Town Temple Sons, Baptisms, Wedding and Testimonies

Saturday morning we were blessed to see our third "African Chi-town son" enter the waters of baptism. Talent Nyamande was glowing in white! Chitungwiza is where Persuade, Richwell, and Talent live. All three have joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, live in Chitungwiza, and work for Rio Douro on the temple site. These men feel the Spirit of Elijah as the temple has drawn them to the gospel of Jesus Christ. What a blessed day to be all together! Bruce had given Talent a priesthood blessing last month to help him to quit smoking. When we see him on the temple site, we give him a thumbs up to see how he's doing. Sister Kitchen, an amazing sister missionary teaching Talent in Chitungwiza, asked him last week how he's been doing with stopping his smoking habit. Although he had a few slips with his peers previously, he commented he'd gone a whole week without a cigarette. Then he exclaimed, "These days I SMOKE THE BOOK OF MORMON!" Wow, what a high the true gospel of Jesus Christ can give us. What wisdom in this humble testimony of Talent. Every time we taught and testified the truthfulness of the gospel to Talent on the temple site in our trailer, we felt the Spirit and had tears fill our eyes. Elder Anderson had the privilege of confirming Talent and I was able to speak about the Holy Ghost during the baptism meeting. Another young adult taught by Sisters Kitchen, Agiza, and Musami named Ryan, was also baptized and Bruce did the honors. What a marvelous day in white!

Talent texted Sister Anderson that night, "Thank you so much! You've made my day to be great and I'll never forget it in my life.
Afterward, we rushed off to Kuwadzana to attend Mario Malenga and Michell's wedding. We stopped at Nando's for lunch to treat our three boys (men). The service was slow and it took over 45 min. to be fed. Running late arrived shortly after the ceremony, going to the wrong chapel at first. The bride and groom shone with happiness. We had many of our temple site workers there celebrating the event. Mario, being a returned missionary, has been very instrumental in helping us teach the workers on site. He served in Ghana and can speak and explain things in Shona. After the wedding, he plans on baptizing Michelle, his new bride. Lolly and Reeve were able to loan this beautiful wedding dress to her for their special day. It fit wonderfully and she was gorgeous.
Bruce was asked to speak at the wedding by Mario, this is what we texted to all our young adult friends and the bride and groom,
"My young friends, remember that marriage is essential to eternal life and that a good marriage and family life is crafted, not found. Strong marriages emerge out of helping each other obtain your education, struggling financially, dealing with sickness, and coping with the shock produced by the birth of your first child. Life changes and moves ahead in many unanticipated ways. Changing jobs, moving to a different city, raising teenagers, caring for an aged parent, retirement, and similar activities and events are what produce eternal marriages. Overcoming these problems as a team—helping and supporting each other along the way—are what produce a happy marriage." Bruce Chadwick

We all volunteer and work on the Harare, Zimbabwe Temple Site. Wonderful workers!

Next, we ran to Mbare, Saturday's Stake Conference, where Persuade was asked to share his testimony. He spoke in Shona, but we could understand the Spirit. It was a wonderful way to top off the day!
South Stake Conference at Mbare Chapel. Persuade was asked to share his testimony by the Stake President. He bore it in Shona, but we knew what he was saying and the Spirit was felt by the audience and us. Our three Shona Sons, 2023.10.18

We welcomed a new senior couple, the Stuki's from Alpine, Utah, who just arrived that afternoon. They will be over "Fleets and Flats." Although full of jetlag, Wendy and Grant were a delight to visit with. All the seniors went out to dinner at Organikks restaurant. Bruce and I ate at this restaurant twice this week. We enjoyed the setting and food last Wednesday night after a game of pickleball with the Gibsons.
